Hey friends,
Today marks 35 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. That’s 35 years of fighting for access, visibility, and a world that doesn’t see disability as a dealbreaker.
As a dad who rolls through life every day, I’ve seen how far we’ve come—but I’ve also seen where doors still stick (figuratively and literally). Remember that time I tried to get into the donut shop with the broken ramp? Or the job application that just wasn’t accessible? The ADA gave us a foundation, but it’s our voices, our stories, and our community that keep the momentum going.
Today, I’m taking my son to the Atlanta Falcons’ Training Camp and Meet & Greet. They’ve got ADA seating and even a wheelchair-accessible shuttle. A small thing? Maybe. But it’s a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come—and how much that law still matters.
So I’m raising a glass (okay, figuratively—I don’t want to wear it!) to the everyday victories, the ramp builders, the advocates, and the folks who show up—not just on anniversaries, but every single day.
If you’ve got a story about how the ADA has impacted your life—good, bad, or just real—I’d love to hear it. Drop it in the comments or just reply to this email. Let’s keep pushing forward, together.
And to everyone who’s supported Wheelchair Daddy, thank you. Your encouragement means the world to me—and to this community we’re building, one roll at a time.
